The Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO) for Washington and Montana will have accountability for creating measurable value through and for people across the organization. Specifically, the successful candidate will partner with the Executive Leadership teams to offer successful business solutions that improve health outcomes, contribute to an exceptional experience for caregivers & patients, and reduce the costs of care.
The CHRO partners with functions that have System-wide or multi-state scope. The CHRO is a business leader that provides a broad range of strategic HR services and capabilities to leaders within the assigned business area(s) and do so in ways that are consistent with Providence Mission and Values. The CHRO proactively translates the group's business strategies into HR solutions that create business value and success enablers to drive its strategic objectives. The CHRO possesses a deep understanding of the business model, diagnose organizational needs, connect, and deploy team capabilities, and consult with customer groups on operational strategies to improve business performance through people. This role leads programs and initiatives, champions the organization's culture, and develops practical local solutions to achieve business objectives (COO of people and culture). CHRO serves as a workforce expert and talent strategist, and work in partnership with executives to address operational, talent, and talent lifecycle-related issues, including change management, organizational development, culture, employee relations, workforce planning, talent growth, development, and coaching. CHROs are extended members of executive and senior leadership teams and work with them to be stewards of the caregiver experience through positive employee and labor relations in their areas of accountability including mitigation of labor risks as well as ongoing maintenance/adherence to local contracts where they exist. CHROs are also responsible for coaching leaders to enhance their people-leadership capabilities. A key requirement of this role is the ability to use analytical tools to inform business decisions and measure business outcomes. In addition, the CHRO ensures the quality of HR service delivery through effective collaboration with HR operational services (shared services) and centers of expertise (COE) specialist teams. They also foster an environment of continuous improvement by motivating, mentoring, and developing others.

Act as the “chief people officer” and primary steward for the workforce and culture
Understand the changing external marketplace and how the business “competes,” to develop and implement innovative talent strategies
Own the internal caregiver experience & the external employer brand
Cultivate robust, diverse regional talent pipelines at all levels
Measure success with outcomes tied to the business (e.g., quality, EBIDA, experience). Secondary measures of success include effective & efficient hiring (incl vacancy), development, engagement & retention, organizational health, leadership effectiveness, and the total cost of labor (incl, agency & OT).
Use segmented hiring, development, retention, and labor strategies to create talent outcomes tied to regional priorities
Ensure organizational strategies are aligned and well communicated, organizational designs produce efficient and effective outcomes , and big change efforts are led to maximize buy-in and support
Proactively managing workplace dynamics whether or not caregivers are organized
Use research, science, and data analytics to inform & make decisions
The CHRO will also collaborate with senior executives and line managers to ensure people strategies are established, known, and implemented to support organizational outcomes. They will also be responsible for implementation of system wide initiatives and serves as a member of Executive leadership teams and various councils.
At least 8 years as a senior level HR leader (Generalist HR Executive Experience Required), over multi-location and multi-geographical locations with 5,000 employees.
Experience moving organizations from decentralized to centralized HR environments and moving employee and management base to technology-based and centralized services (preferred)
Experience in a Fortune 500 company preferred.
Has remained abreast of changing regulatory environment.
Experience in leading within a matrixed HR Delivery System and ambiguous work environments.
Experience in HR strategic planning and working through local business partnerships, service center environment and centers of expertise to achieve aligned objectives.
Experience working directly with (non-HR) senior leaders to achieve strategic initiatives.
Ability to get key HR objectives accomplished through others – both direct report leaders as well as through leaders outside direct reporting relationship.
Has established and built large and effective teams.
Initiates new ideas as well as delivers what is requested and has proven analytical skills.
