Mental Health Counselor - Psychiatric Center for Children and Adolescents
This position will be working 64 hours per 2 week pay period, 8 hour evening shifts.
The Mental Health Counselor (MHC) functions under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse to provide direct care for selected patients. S/he is expected to demonstrate a basic understanding of contemporary psychosocial principles in relation to his/her area of responsibility while implementing the delegated tasks of the Multidisciplinary Treatment Plan of Care. Following orientation and defined training programs, satisfactorily performs skills as defined by departmental policy and orientation procedure. Implements selected unit and patient care activities in collaboration with other team members.
Individualizes patient care using age related concepts based on the unit population assigned for preschoolers (3-5 years), school age (6-12 years) of adolescents (ages 13-17) and adult patients including early adult (ages 18-35) middle adult (ages 36-65) and older adult (ages 66 ) by applying age related concepts including knowledge of growth and development, safety needs, collection and interpretation of data, treatments and care typically required and participating in the evaluation of care. Utilizes age related concepts when communicating with patients and families.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Applicants who apply for an Agency Affiliated Counselor credential through the Department of Health within seven days of employment can provide services within the agency for up to 60 days while the department processes their application. Applicants must stop working on the 60th day of employment if the credential has not been issued. During this time, applicants may not provide unsupervised counseling until the department of their employer has completed a criminal background check. Unsupervised means the supervisor is not physically present at the location where the counseling occurs.
OR possess a valid and unencumbered Washington State License/Registration for one of the following: Certified Counselor, Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Advance Social Worker or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker required.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or related Human Services
