Providence Health & Services Regional Director, Clinical Efficiency and Effectiveness in Spokane, Washington

THE ROLE

The Regional Director of Clinical Efficiency and Effectiveness is accountable and responsible for providing leadership, facilitation, & project management creating and sustaining the development, implementation and sustainment of programs and processes directed at improving clinical effectiveness and efficiency of patient care across the continuum of services at PHC.

Programs/Projects Include:

  • Leading and sustaining the culture and practice of the EXCELerator process across all ministries

  • Identifying strategies, using the EXCELerator process, LEAPT process or other process designs to improve quality and effectiveness results in collaboration with the Quality and Safety Team

  • Participates with ValuSource (one Supply Chain) projects and processes to improve supply expenses

  • Collaborates with Regional Directors to assess Clinical Program and Services strategies and tactics including high expense improvement strategies, then incorporating those into the PHC strategy.

  • Designs and implements workflows and processes to identify care costs for inpatient and outpatient treatment processes when those are identified as outliers compared to other benchmarked facilities. Works collaboratively with and coaches Regional Directors in leading and implementing this work particular to their defined specialty areas.

The Regional Director uses the data to develop an annual strategy presented to Senior Leaders for input and approval. The Regional Director works collaboratively with Regional Directors, Physicians, Finance, Supply Chain, Executive sponsors and Sponsors of each strategy implementing the common the workflow to attain the completion of the strategy and achieve outcomes. S/he convenes (or oversees in the case of the Regional Director sponsoring the strategy/project) interdisciplinary teams to facilitate workouts, design, data measurements between departments and throughout the continuum of care related to processes. The Regional Director works in collaboration with each project team, the quality department, finance and supply chain assisting in efforts to realize results in quality and effectiveness of existing or newly implemented processes and functions. She/he is accountable for organizing, directing and coordinating support processes, measures compliance and effectiveness and shares outcomes internally and externally based on organizational priorities.

The Regional Director demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of change management theory, leadership principles and patient care systems and is accountable for ensuring that new processes are developed based on best practice and scientific evidence, when available. S/he exhibits behaviors that enhance professional performance and reflect the key moral commitment, ethical principles, values and philosophy of PHC S/he serves as a central resource for PHC Administration, Directors, and Managers regarding processes and champions the efforts at all levels without taking on their responsibilities for managing their assigned work processes. The Regional Director ensures effective communication of changes, expectations, opportunities and successes related to processes within and outside the organization.

Qualifications:

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

Required experience/education for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Health Administration or Business Administration; or equivalent educ/experience

  • 10 or more years of significant project management experience in a complex healthcare delivery organization.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of organizational systems, practice standards and regulatory agency requirements

  • Leadership and communications skills in collaborative style

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Understanding and sensitivity to cost of healthcare and integration of cost and quality

  • Ability to manage multiple and complex activities and priorities

  • Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point required.

  • Strong facilitation and consultation skills; teaching and presentation abilities.

Preferred experience/education for this position include:

  • Black belt in Lean Six Sigma

  • Management in a clinical setting

  • Substantial clinical and managerial experience in clinical setting

  • Tableau database.
